How to knit the stretchy bind off

The first time I used this technique was for this cowl, I had bound off normally, gave the cowl to my husband for christmas, and it was not going over his head!

what to do, what to do.

I pondered and thought, maybe an icord bind off.

well, I slept on it, and in the morning I knew I had heard of something called a stretchy bind off, but, was it really any different than a regular bind off when you bind of loosely. I thought i’d check that out before I reknit the entire cowl neck.

Well, the first resource I found was great, I googled “how to knit the stretchy bind off” and stumbled upon a blog with written instructions. Because I have been knitting for a while they were relatively easy to follow.

after knitting this new bind off, I handed it to my husband and lo- and behold! it fit, perfectly!

I decided to make a video for those who learn visually- I hope you enjoy!

To accompany my “along those lines” Knitting pattern I have created an instructional video on how to do the stretchy bind off.

The stretchy bind off is a technique that’s great when you need a little more space in your bind off edge, like in this case, a high cowl neck.
