What buying a MotherOfPurl Pattern means
if you’ve bought any mother of purl patterns you may have noticed that they don’t look like most patterns out there.
My patterns are meant to inspire creativity, and experimentation.
of course you can follow my instructions word-for word- and get the exact same garment that I made, and you can scale up, or down using algebraic equations, and you can take the pattern as suggestion, and experiment as you go.
dare to ask yourself what would happen if I …
When i first started knitting, I looked at patterns less as a blueprint for exactly how to make something and more as suggestions of a basic shape, even in the early days I was identifying where I could add in little lace flourishes, or slap a cable on a sleeve or a border, and hence the way that I design patterns now was born.
you’ll notice in my earlier patterns that they try to follow the expected way of doing things, but as I grew as a designer the patterns changed. I am currently working on transforming those early patterns to be more reflective of my current style.
(if you have any of these earlier patterns I am more than happy to help you adapt it to however you need it to be)
I always start with a gauge swatch, do a few calculations, make some measurements based on where I want the garment to be fitted and go from there. (I use my calculator a lot!)
When you’re knitting a motherofpurl pattern expect to get your calculator out, because it’s meant to be tailored to fit whatever body you’re making the garment for. it’s totally customizable, add more here, subtract some there, omit a whole portion if you want!
